Lubbock Arts Festival Knocks It Out Of The Park Again
The Lubbock Arts Festival is just so...perfect.
You may ask why I'm qualified to pronounce such excellence at our hometown festival, but I have at least been exposed to amazing art and museums for most of my life. The reason ours is so excellent is that it speaks to so many people on so many levels.
The Lubbock Arts Festival is a community event. It exists so that families can be exposed to the larger world of art. This leaves the organizers to balance "art that is for everyone" with thought-provoking pieces.
Let's also not forget that the Lubbock Arts Festival also involves everyone. It brings art and the creation of art into the world of both amateurs and experts. I enjoyed both the mature pieces but I feel the Festival really achieved a major part of its mission in the little boy I saw contributing intensely to the enormous piece of sidewalk art.
This year's festival had a focus on music, and I think I'd be remiss if I didn't highlight some of the things that I found to be super-impressive. The autographed music memorabilia was quite a treat (and was apparently will be donated to Texas Tech's Southwest Collection).
We need things like the Lubbock Arts Festival to remind people that it's a great big world out there, full of color, design, and creation. If you have not made this festival part of your yearly family traditions, then pencil in next year's event now. You can count on this event to inspire and entertain.
