Lubbock has a unique ability to gently eject your consciousness without asking permission. You don’t have a breakdown here. You simply…leave. Mentally. For a minute. Sometimes longer.

There’s the grocery store aisle where you stop moving and forget what you came for. Not in a dramatic way. You’re just staring at soup, wondering how you ended up here and why there are so many choices. Someone eventually says, “Excuse me,” and you snap back as if nothing happened.

The left-turn lane is another hotspot. You sit through multiple light cycles, watching the countdown tick by, reflecting on past decisions. You don’t even notice the light changed. The person behind you does, though.

Then there’s the United parking lot. You made it. That was the hard part. Going inside feels optional now. You scroll your phone, adjust the radio, and consider driving away entirely. This is not avoidance. This is processing.

Dissociation also thrives at gas pumps. You start pumping gas, and suddenly you’re thinking about childhood, money, and whether anyone actually knows what they’re doing. The pump clicks off. You weren’t ready.

And of course, the shower. The official Lubbock thought chamber. You replay conversations, imagine arguments that never happened, and emerge having no idea how long you’ve been in there.

None of this is alarming. It’s just how we cope. Lubbock doesn’t demand your full attention. It quietly invites your brain to take a smoke break and come back when it’s ready.

And well? That feels just 'bout right.
