Here we go again, here's where you DO NOT want to live in the Hub City.

The Map

The City Of Lubbock and the Lubbock Police Department make a really useful tool available to you. It's a crime map that shows where crimes happen in the city. Little icons are sprinkled throughout the map denoting thefts, assaults, burglaries, and more for the current year. You can dial down to a precise location and find out if it's a "high crime area" or not. This could be very useful information if you want to move to the Hub City.

It's A Lot

There's one problem with the crime map: there's too much crime. The map shows that almost every place in the Hub City is covered up pretty equally with all types of crime. To be fair, north and east Lubbock look a little less crime-ridden, but that's probably because they are less populated. I guess you could say that south-west Lubbock is slightly more crime-ridden, but as the city grows south and west, you can see clearly the crime follows.

Clarity

It is slightly unfair to look at the map without scaling out. If you scale out a bit you can get a clearer picture of what's going on. For instance, I noticed a "lack" of crime around the Tech area. That would probably be because Tech police deal with issues there (or do they?).

A Closer Look

Let's do one more drill before you bounce over to the map. Our radio station is at 82nd and Quaker with apartments next door. Let's see what kind of hijinks we're up to!

How Did We Do?

I've marked our location with a red dot. Now from the map you can tell we had a burglary, a theft, and "an assaultive offense" nearby. This kind of close of look also shows that the crime(s) aren't as dense as the smaller versions of the map make it seem. And with that, we'll let you look up your own neighborhood right here!
