Lubbock Will Most Likely Smash A Record This Wednesday
We are living in weird times.
The Weather
The weather has been nothing short of crazy. I'd be lying though if I didn't say that the weather has always been crazy around here. I distinctly in 1979 remember getting in a three-point football stance in the remnants of some snow and the next day players vomiting due to the heat. Then again, wide weather swings and breaking record highs aren't necessarily the same thing.
The Record
If you could place a bet on breaking a record this Wednesday, then it would most likely be the best bet you ever placed. Our record high for January 21st was 81 degrees in 1950. This Wednesday the forecast is for us to hit 83. Ding! Ding! We have a winner this Wednesday for the hottest January 21st ever.
All-Time Records
If we hit 83, it will tie the record for the hottest day(s) in January ever. In 2006 we hit 83 on January 2nd and 3rd and in 2018 we hit 83 on January 30th. Compare that with the coldest day we ever had in January at minus 16 in 1963.
More On The Horizon?
I guess I should mention that not only will it be hot on Wednesday, it will be windy. Just imagine yourself walking into a clothes dryer full of grit and you'll get the idea of what Wednesday will be like. For better or worse, Wednesday is a one-day heat wave and we head back down into the more seasonal mid to upper sixties for a few days (Oh, then rocketing back up to 78 on Sunday).
