Update: One day after we reported that Royal Indian Cuisine had permanently closed its doors back on May 29th, the restaurant broke a two-plus year silence on Facebook to share that they are working to reopen.

According to Royal Indian Cuisine, their current closure is due to "personnel reasons." While they didn't say if those personnel issues were a result of the coronavirus, which severely impacted many local businesses, we're just glad to hear that the closure is temporary.

Currently, the business is still closed per Yelp and Lubbock in the Loop.

A post on the restaurant's second Facebook page from May 29th also noted that the business would be closing its doors, seemingly for good.

Original story: It's very sad to see that Lubbock's Royal Indian Cuisine at 3806 50th Street has closed its doors permanently as of May 29th, according to Lubbock in the Loop.

Unfortunately, Lubbock has lost a special and unique gem. The difficult economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was more than they could bear, and they were forced to shutter their store.

While many restaurants are struggling, many are coming back. It's very difficult to see that this unique restaurant has had to close for good.

There's no note on their front door or explanation on their Facebook page, which hasn't been updated in a while. The food they served is a very unique offering. According to their page, this is what the restaurant said about their cuisine:

This is authentic Indian Cuisine in Lubbock TX.
We are specialized in both south and
north Indian food. We serve Halal foods. Cantact for catering needs

Royal Indian Cuisine served up an authentic Indian Halal buffet, according to Yelp.

According to that website's COVID-19 update, there are just three places in Lubbock now featuring Indian food. The two Tikka Shacks (one by Texas Tech on 9th Street and the other at 66th and Milwaukee), as well as India Palace on 34th Street.

Royal Indian Cuisine had plenty of great reviews online, and there's no doubt they will be missed by many of their fans. We hope they will find a way to reopen. Sadly, a look through their front windows shows an empty space inside.

We wish the owners and staff the very best in the future.
