The City Of Lubbock Is About To Loudly Scare The Hell Out Of Us Again
Remember when Lubbock didn't have tornado sirens? To quote Depeche Mode, we "enjoyed the silence" back then. Now, in the interest of keeping you alive, the City of Lubbock is about to give Grandma another reason to reach for her pills and call the reverend in case of the rapture.
Friday morning, July 8th, is the second Friday of the month, which means it's TORNADO SIREN TESTING DAY in the Hub City.
Yay! No school!
This means that these slender, sexy beasts are getting a morning workout just as you settle into the office.
The test is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and should be loud enough for all Lubbock citizens to hear. Mostly because you probably don't live very far from a siren, according to this map:
Either that, or it's a map of Whataburger locations. I get confused. Then again, there's probably a lot more Whataburgers than there are tornado sirens...I think.
So what does this mean? It means that the sirens you hear Friday morning are just to remind you of what you'll hear just before your house blows away and transports you to the merry old land of Oz.
The test should last for abut 3 minutes, but won't be active in the event of severe weather, because that would just freak us out needlessly.
Plus, if it was an actual tornado, this guy would be telling us to run for the hills:
But that's not happening. It's gonna be sunny and 100 tomorrow, so this is just a test.
Love ya, Ron!
