Did You Know That Lubbock, Texas Has A New Mountain?
Lubbock gets a lot of flak for being flat.
The old saying is, "Lubbock is so flat, you can watch your dog run away for three days" (sorry, that never gets old to me). It is in fact, very flat and we seem even flatter due to a sign ordinance that has kept a lot of businesses from changing up the skyline. We're also very flat because we have so much room to build here, that people tend to build out instead of up.
So a few weeks ago I was driving down the road and thought, "What the heck was that?" (except I didn't say heck). Right there, on the right-hand side of the street was a mountain that had never been there before. I kind of mentally blew it off until I saw it a couple more times. This past Tuesday I finally decided to get a picture of it for you.
That is what I call Mount Erskine. As a matter of fact, it's a plateau and a mountain.
I'm not sure what the purpose of this mountain is, but it is at least partially surrounded by bricks, so it may be important. I'm not sure if urban explorers are allowed to climb it, but I think I could get it done. I am also really looking forward to our one snow day that we have every winter so we can see it as the snow-capped majestic mountain that it is destined to be.
I think we should all make "Mount Erskine" a thing. You can find it on Avenue Q and Erskine. You probably shouldn't get too close because for all I know it's full of asbestos or broken glass or something. Still, it's good to have a change of scenery around the Hub City.
