In some parts of the world there will be a "Blood Moon", unfortunately, it's a plain ole "Buck Moon" for the U.S. and Canada.

A blood moon is caused by a full lunar eclipse and it just won't be visible to us. Instead we'll get a "Full Buck Moon" named for the best night of the year for harvesting deer.

So without the drama of the blood moon, what are we to do? Well on Friday night Mars will also be closer to the earth than it's been since 2003, so waving at the little green men is a total option.

If none of this floats your celestial boat, the Perseid meteor showers make their way back August 12-13th.

Enjoy your big bad moon this weekend. Enjoy the night air because it's just too dang hot during the day.
