I hope I can save you a little Thanksgiving grief.

The rule of thumb is 24 hours of defrosting for every five pounds. The average frozen turkey is about 20 pounds, so you may already be a tiny bit tardy.

The best thing you can do with your bird is just take it from the freezer to the fridge.  There are ways to accelerate the defrosting process, but it's best to just let it happen naturally, 24 hours at a time.

If you haven't picked up a turkey yet, how big should you get? The answer according to experts is one pound (including bones) per person...so eight people=eight pound turkey.
