This morning there was a bible giveaway in front of Atkins Middle School.

Please think about this. Do you feel like it's someone else's job to tell your kids how to worship? Really, really think about that. If you have a religious preference, you probably have a certain way that you think those materials should be presented. Giving minors bibles or anything without parental permission is not okay.

Strangers Giving Bibles to Children at School

Now, let's get to the nitty-gritty here.

I was first born-again when I was a minor and my parents were nowhere around. Two strangers changed the way I thought for 35 years with zero input from my parents. That's not okay. You wouldn't let a stranger give your kid a sucker, and you shouldn't let them give your kid a bible either. Allowing strangers to approach kids for any reason is dangerous.

The people passing out bibles need to be treated as trespassers on school grounds. I'm sure they've figured out a way to stand one foot off of school property, but something needs to be done. I don't want to load this post up with too many 'what ifs,' but what if there was something else contained or placed between the pages of that bible?

I think we should touch on the fact that they are doing this in middle school, too. I believe we're talking about 12 to 14-year-old kids here. I believe many of these kids may be old enough to make some decisions, but once again, as a parent, don't you want to be involved?

Nothing in life is free, not even bibles. Even if your kid disposes of the gift, they may have to deal with guilt from doing it. If they read something out of there out of context, you may have bigger problems. There is just no part of this that is okay and we need to quit thinking that it is. Heck, how do you feel when people bring religious stuff that's different from your religion to your door?

It's time for parents to get involved and let these people know there is a time and place for everything, and school isn't it.
