Ottine, Texas

Ottine is a very small town in Gonzales County Texas. Wikipedia puts the population of Ottine at less than 100. If you asked what it was near, the answer would be, "pretty much nothing. Think of it this way though, if you made a kind of lopsided triangle, Austin would be on top, San Antonio would be on the bottom left, and Ottine would be on the bottom right. Here's a Google Maps picture for those of you who can see it:

Tiny Town, Big Monster

The monster has been called, "The Thing", and a Bigfoot. It is said to be a hair covered, ape-like creature. Some locals have tried to follow the creatures cry but came up empty, except for broken branches that seem to indicate that something was there.  Some descriptions put the animal as small as four-foot tall while others claim it to be eight-foot tall. One certainly can't blame anyone for the height-discrepancies, because I'd mostly be focused on running the other direction.

He's Infamous

The town has embraced "The Thing" and you can get t-shirts and the usual what-nots that advertise it as the home of this swampy version of bigfoot. As for the creatures hijinks, residents say pets have come up missing and mobile homes have been jostled.  Some people actually claim that the monster has come up to their cars and looked into the windows. If you want a peek for yourself, the sightings are oriented around the 198 acres of Palmetto State Park.
