United is kicking off its annual school supply drive in a big way.

This is just one of those things that makes United, United. I know that's a weird sentence and sentiment, but long before they had competition, United was there for our community in all the best ways.

It's one thing to ask for donations, it's an entirely different thing to give the drive a push start. United is priming the pump this year by giving local school superintendents gift cards to purchase the initial donations.

Think about this the next time you go shopping, you don't even have to grab anything off the shelf, your cashier will probably ask you if you'd like to donate, if you can, please do. Smarter kids benefit everyone.

Here's the official press release for the event:

From July 20 to August 1, the donate-at-the-register campaign will run across Lubbock in all United Supermarkets, Markets Streets and Amigos stores.

Following brief remarks, United Supermarkets will provide the superintendents with gift cards for a mini school supply shopping spree to kick-off this year’s fundraiser.
