Where Would You Have One Last Meal In Lubbock?
Here's a great question to ask yourself?
One Last Meal
We're not talking about a death row type of meal here. We're talking about getting one last meal at some place in Lubbock that no longer exists. I have some thought-starters for you and I can't wait until you add to the list on Facebook.
Franchise Food
I would love to just drive up to the corner and grab some Jack In The Box tacos. I'm also a big fan of the sourdough burgers at Carl's Junior. How about a chicken fried steak from Grandy's? Let's not forget a candlelight vigil was held when the last Furr's closed down, but it's hard to choose one item. I would absolutely grab a sausage at Dickey's Barbeque if I had the chance (they're now available in supermarkets, but I preferred them onsite). I also think I would grab some Italian nachos from Johnny Carino's given the opportunity. I was also a HUGE fan of Genghis Grill and it was the only place I would go to on the reg.
Local Restaurants
I don't know why the memory is so clear, but I had the best restaurant hamburger I ever had in my life at Whaler's Bay. The salad bar at Cattle Barron's was something close to spectacular and I also know people still crying because they're missing the prime rib. Home Plate Diner comes up very frequently in conversations, again for their inexpensive chicken fried steaks and home-style food. The Ranch House, which is now a party house, used to be quite the hot spot for lunch. I would also love one last visit to Shrimp Galley. Benaglio's was mentioned to me for their build-your-own pasta choices and Zucchini's for their salad bar.
More Favorites
I had some excellent Tex-Mex and good times at Ruby Tequila's which was kind of local and franchise at the same time, I remember their chips being excellent and their drink menu being awesome. I think everyone around here grew up with a soft spot for a big steak from the 50-yard line. I also think a lot of people would like one more fancy dress-up dinner at Chez Suzette. I have to also mention the glory days of Chinese Kitchen when they used to be on Slide.
...And My Choice Is
If I could go back in time and have one more meal, from one more place before they close, it would be a burger from The Brittany. I would love to pick up one of those red phones and order one right now.
