You’re About to Have Another Pain in the Gas
Let's make sure we put the blame where it's supposed to be.
Before we start putting stickers on gas pumps, let's get down to brass tacks on gas. OPEC member nations have decided to limit production, which may cause your gas to bounce right back up. That's it, that's all. There's not much we can do about it.
My first question was "who is in OPEC"? The answer is; Algeria, Angola, Congo, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. Now I'm not being xenophobic here because it's about the oil producers and not the people, but do any of those countries sound like somebody who might cut the US a break?
I personally think we ought to jab those folks right in the eye and get rid of every possible regulation we can to get the drills drilling in Midland/Odessa and elsewhere (but mostly Midland/Odessa, because that's a more direct trickle back to our economy).
I also think we ought to consider it patriotic to start moving to electricity. Yes, sometimes fossil fuels are used to produce some electricity, but not all. If we start getting some of our car juice from the sun, wind, or waves, then that's fewer fossil fuels we have to rely on from OPEC. Plus, there's no harm in trying. We might even clean up the air a little bit in the process. You're also boosting the economy if you buy a new electric car.
So if gas goes up, I certainly feel for ya. Keep in mind that electricity costs an electric car driver about .03 cents a mile while gas-powered cars pay an average of .15 a mile. With a disparity in prices like that, it's time we tell OPEC to take a hike one way or another.
