Senate Bill No. 10 is causing quite a ruckus in Texas news. If you aren't familiar with it, the bill requires all elementary and secondary Texas schools to display the biblical 10 commandments on the wall "in a conspicuous place in each classroom", on a display no smaller than 16 inches wide and 20 inches tall. The bill also requires a specific text, selected by lawmakers, that is associated with the Protestant faith to be used in every classroom display.

What We Know

The bill, regardless of how blatantly unconstitutional it might be, is sitting on Governor Abbot's desk, where it's expected to be signed into law.

Don't Panic

The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas, ACLU,  Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and Freedom From Religion Foundation have all announced they will sue over the bill. They've got a pretty good track record for keeping crazy crud from going down, so fingers crossed they sort it out before we end up down other rabbit holes we have no business being in.

New Commandments

In the meantime, I've come up with 10 commandments that would serve an actual purpose other than elevating the egos of the self-righteous folk who think they know what's best for YOUR kid.

Deadly Texas: The Lone Star State's Most Dangerous Insects & Arachnids

Encounters with Texas insects can be magical (think flights of Monarch butterflies!), but mostly they tend to be neutral or negative. Should you really worry about creepy crawlies in Texas? These are the insects and arachnids you probably should be aware of, as they all could prove potentially fatal (although that outcome is very rare).
