I don't even understand people who get off on spreading misinformation.

A popular meme is claiming that the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is being spread via the nation's gas pumps.

Let's start at the top: EVERYTHING that is touchable could spread disease if the next person touches it, then their face or eyes quick enough.

USA TODAY dug down with experts and found that gas pumps are not necessarily "super-spreaders" of disease. They are what they are.

The danger in spreading this type of information about gas pumps is that it somehow leads people to believe 'as long as I avoid gas pumps, I'll be OK,' when they need to be aware of everything around them.

The best way to avoid COVID-19 isn't avoiding gas pumps; it's by avoiding misinformation, washing your hands, and social distancing.
